UPDATED: Andrew Stanton has tweeted with regards to todays news
Didn’t you all learn from Chicken Little? Everyone calm down. Don’t believe everything you read. Nothing to see here now #skyisnotfalling
While Stanton did shed some light on the situation, he neither confirmed nor denied a Nemo sequel, for all we know, he was speaking with regards to the Toy Story 4 ‘news’ (still trending worldwide as of 5:15 PST). With the lingering now at the end of his Tweet, however, it looks like we are going to have to wait for an official announcement from Pixar before we can for sure begin to prepare for a Finding Nemo Sequel.
On July 17th 2012 Finding Nemo 2 was trending worldwide on Twitter following several posts from blogs including Slashfilm, Deadline, and The Hollywood Reporter. While the Finding Nemo Sequel news carries some evidence and validity, many tweets were declaring that Toy Story 4 is in the works, and Monsters, Inc. 2 is coming out next year. Those in the Pixar community are definitely aware that the Pixar film slated for 2013 is not a sequel to Monsters, Inc. but rather the prequel Monsters University. While the Toy Story 4 rumors aren’t entirely false, Big Screen Animation broke the news last month about the Toy Story television specials that are on the way.
Now that we have straightened that out, back to the big scoop of the day: the sequel to Finding Nemo. The film is slated for a 2016 release with producer Lindsay Collins (Wall•E co-producer) with a screenplay by Victoria Strouse.
Following the successes of Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3, and with Monsters University coming next year, a Nemo sequel has seemed like a movie waiting to happen, however that would make the 5th sequel from Pixar, which some could perceive as lazy or unoriginal, although Pixar does have three originals coming after Monsters University.
I am certain that this is not the last we have heard of a Finding Nemo Sequel so be sure to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter and Tumblr to stay as up to date on the lastest Pixar News as possible.
